What in the world is going on with S/mileage? They’re dropping like flies!
Maeda Yuuka has decided to leave S/mileage, supposedly because she wants to concentrate on the entrance exams for college that are coming up. Her graduation is set for the end of the year, 12/31/11. That makes Please Mini Skirt Post Woman her last single, with that releasing on her birthday, 12/28/11. Source at Sanspo here.
I’m devastated. Between Yuuka and Saki, 2 out of the 3 S/mileage girls I loved are gone. That leaves only Kanon in the group that I really adore. Still not a fan of most of the sub-members, either. At this point, maybe they could just make Kanon go solo and leave Ayaka with the brand new group of newbies. I wish.
Seriously, between all the things that have gone on, it’s becoming harder and harder to be a S/mileage fan. First we have all the members visibly upset when sudden auditions are announced to add members to the group. Then we have members chosen who, overall, were not up to the high standard that S/mileage had already set with its members. Then we have the “sub-member” nonsense. Then Saki leaves. Then a sub-member leaves (whatever). Then after toying with the girls and the fans with a load of bullshit “earn your membership – LOL not really!!” test for the subs, they all become full members. Now Yuuka is leaving. That’s one hell of a lot to happen in for a group in 6 months.
It’s so much that back when Saki told Tsunku she wanted out, I wish he had made the decision then to disband the group. Let them go out well, instead of leaving them to flop around like an idol-fish out of water, waiting to die.
I guess I’m bitter. Yuuka is one of my top 3 favorite Hello! Project members. And I still have my doubts as to whether this is really 100% due to a college exam or if there is more going on behind the scenes that we fans will never hear of. She left a good-bye message, which you can find translated in english here. She does sound sincere about her intentions…. But it really doesn’t matter, the end result is the same. S/mileage is losing a beautiful, talented, endearing girl, and that’s just a pity.
